Alison Sandifer

I work with stitch, appliqué and screen print. I am drawn to working with recycled or repurposed fabric which often has some personal history. My approach is intuitive and spontaneous, responding directly to the materials that I find around me, including what is seemingly discarded.

I have a keen interest in observing human interaction and how negative space can convey the nature of relationships. I like to observe queues of people which, although made up of diverse individuals, collectively form interesting rhythmic patterns. My work is figurative (animals included) but I tend to want to convey the overlooked and unregarded folk, inviting the viewer to make their own narrative.
